The Right Circuit for Full-Speed Charging
- 60-amp circuit: the Wall Connector charges at up to 48 amps (11.5 kW), about 40 miles of range per hour on most Teslas. This is what we recommend when the panel allows it.
- 50-amp circuit: up to 40 amps, about 32 miles per hour, when the panel is tight.
- Two Teslas: two Wall Connectors can share one circuit with Tesla’s Power Sharing and split the power automatically.
- Commissioning: we set the amperage in the Tesla app, connect the charger to your Wi-Fi for updates, and test a charge with your car before we leave.
Load Check First, Then the Panel Question
Before any install we run a load calculation on your panel. Many Orange County homes from the 1950s–70s have 100-amp panels, and some have Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels that should be replaced anyway. If the panel can’t carry the circuit safely, we tell you up front and give you the options: a sub-panel, a 200-amp panel upgrade, or a lower charging rate. Load-management devices exist and we can install them, but when a panel is undersized we usually recommend the upgrade: it’s the safer long-term fix, and it leaves room for a heat pump later.
Gen 3 or Universal Wall Connector
- Gen 3 Wall Connector: Tesla’s own connector, for homes with Teslas only.
- Universal Wall Connector: charges Tesla (NACS) and J1772 cars from one unit, with no adapter. A good choice if you also drive, or plan to buy, another brand.

What Happens on Installation Day
- Estimate and load check: we look at the panel, the route to the charger location and the parking spot. You get a flat price.
- Permit: we file with your city (in Irvine it’s usually issued online the same day).
- Installation: usually a few hours: breaker, wire, conduit, mounting and connection.
- Commissioning: amperage set in the Tesla app, Wi-Fi connected, test charge with your car.
- Inspection: we meet the city inspector for the final sign-off.

How much does it cost to install a Tesla Wall Connector in Orange County?

What size breaker does a Tesla Wall Connector need?
A 60-amp breaker for full speed: the Wall Connector then charges at 48 amps, about 11.5 kW. On a 50-amp breaker it charges at 40 amps. We set the amperage during commissioning so it matches the circuit.
Can I plug my Tesla into a NEMA 14-50 outlet instead?
Yes, with Tesla’s Mobile Connector and a 14-50 adapter, at up to 32 amps. A hardwired Wall Connector charges faster (48 amps), has no plug to wear out and is rated for outdoor use. Installing either costs the same with us.
Do I need a permit to install a Wall Connector?
Yes. California cities require an electrical permit for a new EV charger circuit, and the inspection confirms it was installed safely. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.
Will my electrical panel handle a Tesla charger?
Often, but not always. Older 100-amp panels and Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels may not carry a 60-amp circuit safely. Our load check tells you before you buy anything, and we give you the options: a sub-panel, a panel upgrade or a lower charging rate.
How long does installation take?
Usually a few hours once the permit is issued. A sub-panel or panel upgrade adds time; we give you the schedule with the estimate.
Do you install the Universal Wall Connector too?
Yes. The Universal Wall Connector charges Teslas and J1772 cars from one unit, and installs the same way as the Gen 3.
Can two Teslas share one charger circuit?
Yes. Two Wall Connectors can share one circuit with Tesla’s Power Sharing feature, which splits the power between the cars automatically. It’s often the best option when the panel can’t take two full circuits.
